Tour name: Official PRINCE Victoria After Jam
Official PRINCE Victoria After Jam
Prince will perform a highly anticipated two-hour set at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre tonight, the first concert on local soil by the Grammy-winning superstar from Minneapolis.
To make matters more exciting, Prince and his band, the New Power Generation, will be appearing at an official nightclub after-party scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Saturday at Sugar nightclub on Yates Street.
The event is open to the public. Tickets are $67.80 (incl. service charges) and are available at wantickets.com. The online sales window will close at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
Prince’s official after-party, according to a club spokesperson, will reportedly feature the Purple Rain hitmaker and members of band, along with other performers.
Loosely scripted after-parties have been Prince’s bread and butter for years. Earlier this week, following his concert in Calgary, Prince and his band — which features former James Brown sideman Maceo Parker — performed an official after-party concert for 160 fans gathered a sushi restaurant.
“Diminutive and dynamic, he was led by a large bodyguard through the crowd, strapped on a bass, took his place at the back of the band, and jammed his funky hide off, while directing the rest of his crew through some superb numbers,” wrote Mike Bell of the Calgary Herald in his review of the performance.
“For most of his time, he kept his back to the crowd, content to merely be part of the magic and let his people play.”
His concert in Victoria tonight is the final of date of his 11-stop Welcome 2 Canada trek. Could we expect him to blow off a bit more steam than he did in Calgary, which the Calgary reviewer called “one of the singularly greatest experiences of my life, musical or other”?
If so, it will be Delirious, indeed.
Tickets for his concert tonight at Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre are available for $79.50 and $175 (plus service charges). They can be purchased in person at the
