Deathline is a duo from London, UK featuring Jennie (bass guitar, vocals) and Kaoru (guitar, vocals and programming). Deathline play a blend of electronic backing and harsh, garage rock style overdriven instrumentation, that was labelled “rock noir” by their supporters due to its dark and atmospheric
nature. They mix a dark and heavy psych / shoegaze / kraut sensibility with elements of industrial, disco and electro backing entering the mix.
Swedish-born Jennie’s vocal style has been likened to “a punk rock Nico”, while the group’s mixture of dense, dark textures and beats, harsh guitar sounds, feedback and repetitive lyrics have drawn comparisons with sources as diverse as The Fall, The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, LCD Soundsystem, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Raveonettes.
Jennie and Kaoru met as members of 2000’s Artrocker Club scene garage punk band Electric Shocks. Prior to this, Kaoru played lead guitar in notorious late 90’s drag queen punk noise band Six Inch Killaz. Deathline were formed sometime after the Shocks’ breakup in 2006.
