The Manchester based band has toured extensively in the UK and internationally in its various incarnations over the last three decades, playing to sell out crowds along the way. Few debut albums could lay claim to have had the impact of the band’s Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out) album, released in September 1985.
The latest line up was launched exclusively on radio station Xfm in January 2012 when it was announced that the band would return with the original and definitive line up of Shaun Ryder (lead vocals), Gary Whelan (drums), Mark Day (lead guitar), Paul Ryder (bass guitar), Paul Davis (keyboard), Mark Berry aka Bez (percussion), widely known for his ‘manic on stage antics’, and Rowetta Satchell (backing vocals).
The band announced in September 2012 that it was writing its first album with the original line up in more than 20 years. The album, eagerly awaited by Happy Mondays’ fans, is due to be released later this year.
Scarborough Borough Council can also announce that 808 State, whose top-10 hit ‘Pacific State’ is instantly recognisable almost a quarter of a century later, will support Happy Mondays at the theatre.
