Tour name: Joshua Bell & Symphonie Espagnole
Lalo: Symphonie espagnole for Violin and Orchestra, Opus 21
Liszt: A Faust Symphony
Famed violinist Joshua Bell returns to the PSO for Lalo’s daring violin concert piece, Symphonie espagnole, written at the beginning of a French fascination with Spanish-themed music that would later capture composers like Debussy and Ravel and inspire Bizet’s famous opera Carmen. Victor de Sabata Guest Conductor Chair Gianandrea Noseda leads the PSO in Liszt’s rarely performed dramatic portrayals of three main characters in Goethe’s rendition of the Faust legend - the fallen scholar Faust, his innocent love Gretchen, and the demon Mephistopheles.
