“Järvi is a grand master.” –BBC Music Magazine
Michigan is no stranger to Neeme Järvi, who is Music Director Emeritus for the Detroit Symphony after 15 years of leadership. Maestro Järvi returns to Michigan with the venerated Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, where he started his career five decades ago. He built the ensemble into one of the finest in the former Soviet Union, returning as Music Director in 2010. Maestro Järvi has made over 400 recordings and earned a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest conductors of our time. He is beloved by audiences not only for his remarkable artistry but also for his charming, vibrant personality both on stage and off.
The performance features one of Dvorák’s most popular works, the Cello Concerto in B Minor, featuring Tchaikovsky International Competition First Prize and Gold Medal winner Narek Hakhnazaryan, along with Sibelius’ triumphant Symphony No. 5 and Veljo Tormis’ powerhouse Overture No. 2.
