Like with anything great, Yuck's debut album in 2011 spawned an awful lot of copycats. Noted for their lo-fi approach - Yuck was self recorded and produced - there were many that focused in on the style, while fundamentally lacking the substance. Favourable comparisons were drawn with Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jnr and My Bloody Valentine, and their tracks Georgia and Get Away became the weird soundtrack of the summer. After having a year or so to take stock and change their line-up, the band are back with a deeper, more melodic sophomore effort in Glow and Behold, due out on October 1st through Fat Possum
While the sonic landscape has changed since those fuzzy days in 2009 when the band formed in London, there is something timelessly brilliant about the band's work. The New York Times noted that their debut was "unabashedly beautiful" and gave it 9/10; The Guardian (4/5), NME (8/10), The Independent (4/5), Q (8/10) and Pitchfork (8.1/10) were among the many that concurred. The band have so far revealed two tracks from their new LP - the dreamy, swirling Middle Sea and the passionate drive of Rebirth, the latter of which largely dealt with former member Daniel Blumberg's departure from the band.
