The NAACP's Image Award recipient for Outstanding World Music Album 2010 will be playing live. SILA, who hails from Kenya is a leader in world music. His rural African roots are highlighted in his music--not only in the lyrics that tell of his experiences, but also, in the rhythmic beats that will have your feet moving. His unique style incorporates soul, funk, African rhythm, reggae, R&B and Afropop resulting in his worldwide fans and accolades. He will be performing music off his upcoming album SuperAfrican.
Growing up in Africa, SILA was influenced by a diversity of musical styles. He listened to music from around the world and by local artists. Artists such as James Brown, Miles Davis, Bob Marley, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Prince, Jimi Hendrix, Makeba, Angelique Kidjo and Fela inspired his musical aspirations. His music transcends countries, cultures and genres.
SILA’s next album, “SuperAfrican,” contains twelve tracks that feature members of Santana, Michael Franti, Spearhead, the Mickey Hart Band, Sting, Stevie Wonder, and Jazz Mafia all contributing live instrumentation. Working with such accomplished Bay Area talent has led SILA to becoming a more masterful singer, songwriter and producer. The release of “SuperAfrican” is scheduled for spring 2014. Also, to be launched is a comic book bearing the same name, illustrated by Eduardo Garcia, about Africa's newest super hero.
