"Ryan Adams totally justified my faith in him last night. He was excellent from start to finish - and that was just the anecdotes (including a story about how he found Eastenders depressing). His haphazard approach to things was quite refreshing. He had a set-list but didn't stick to it (he couldn't read his own writing as he'd lost his glasses) but no-one, least of all the man himself seemed to mind. Predictably some idiot shouted out for "Summer Of 69" at the end (much to my annoyance) making Ryan abort plans to play "Come Pick Me Up",one of my favourite songs!

The new songs were extremely good and the old favourites were dusted off with aplomb. "La Cienaga" sent shivers down my spine and a bewitching "Strawberry Wine" provided a fitting close to the first set (there was a brief ten minute interval). Set 2 highlights included "AMY" and a jaw-droppingly ace rendition of "I See Monsters". Ryan's voice was magnificent even if he didn't look in the finest of moods. He looked like he was suffering from a particularly nasty hangover! - I don't think those generous glasses of red wine were really helping!. The stage set up was sparse, a candleabra, a picture of Jerry Garcia, two acoustic guitars and a grand piano. Alas it all ended too soon - due to the ridiculous 10:15pm curfew - Ryan did his best to break this, he ended up playing until 10:30pm, but eventually had to leave the stage or face a hefty fine."
