On Monroe Transfer:
The Monroe Transfer are a 7-piece group from London in the United Kingdom. We make sad, angry, melancholy, triumphant instrumental music. We hate jewel cases, and try to package our recordings in as pleasing a way as we can. We think that ‘DIY’ doesn’t have to mean ‘badly made’. We record and release much of our music ourselves, and have also released material through Organ Grinder Records.
On Sam Sallon:
Urban troubadour Sam Sallon is a young veteran of the stage. His lucid, no-frills songwriting has won him the support of a loyal following. Notable gigs include opening for Rodrigo y Gabriela at the City Varieties Music Hall, Lyle Lovett at the Royal Festival Hall, Nouvelle Vague at the Pigalle, Fionn Raegan at the Luminaire, Kamila Thompson at the Troubadour, Nick Harper at the 12 bar, Johnny Flynn at Matt & Phred’s, Son of Dave at the Barfly and Pete Doherty at the Royal Albert Hall. In May 2009, Sam won the Exposure Music Award for best folk song. Sam’s first album is expected this winter. He is currently touring the UK.
On Heligoland:
If you've ever fallen in love with somebody who lives in a neighbouring street, a person you see often but hardly know, if at all, then these memories or wistful feelings now have a perfect soundtrack in Australian/French band Heligoland. “Melbourne's Heligoland combine the emotive ethereality of The Cocteau Twins with the stark balladry of Low.” - The Wire.
