"I absolutely loved this gig. First off the two support bands were ace. The Shivers and Straight Lines, both brilliant. Then up came The Automatic, you can't help but like these boys, really engageing. Great tunes, everyone seamed to like them a lot. Great to have a jump about too.
I love Chinnerys very much, its a great venue and the crowd are always up for it and really freindly."
"This was a last minute gig for me, my usual Auto gig buddy text me to ask if I could go so that was that my first visit to Chinnery's was in store/
The Shivers were up first and they were pretty good, nice tunes and engaging enough that I paid attention. If they came to London I would be tempted to check them out.
Straight Lines were up next and to be honest most of The Shivers set had been wondering if they were as good as I remembered them to be. It was a mix of anticipation and nerves as they hit the stage, was I going to be made to look stupid after bigging them up to all and sundry for them to be terrible? I couldn't have been more wrong if I had tried, they were ten times better than I had remembered and I am now a proud owner of their ep and am desperately waiting for their album. The most immediate song of theirs is 'set me on fire and feed me to the wolves' but after listening to the EP thus now knowing a few song titles, Versus the Allegiance and All My Friends Have Joined The Army' are now my favourites. Their set was solid and they know how to get a good rapport going with the crowd, as they left the stage I was left with a feeling I had seen the gig I had come to see and had to remind myself there was another band to come next, sign of a band that are clearly ready to be the main act and not a support.
The Automatic, its pretty clear from my gig listing that I like them. They are a band I do forget how much I like though as I struggle to listen to their albums at home but live is a different matter. Cardiff Barfly was a poor showing for the new songs so I was a tad curious to see if I would like them in a venue with better sound (Chinnery's sounds poops all over Cardiff Barfly even if they did do the classic mistake of turn it up too loud for the venue size leaving horrid rebounce off the walls). There were a few which really stood out and for those listening to the latest offering of Interstate and thinking its bland, try it live, so much better. In fact I think this band should just stick to recording their songs live and be done with it. I loved last night, and the band looked like they did to. Looking forward to seeing this new Automatic chapter unfold."
