"Having stopped seeing the Bad Seeds for a few years after the Henry's Dream shows in Brixton - (and generally giving up on Nick) it took a lot to get me to this - needless to say I was not impressed when Nick sat at his piano started tinkling the ivories and a polite ripple of applause broke out from the seated audience. As I had been bitterly complaininng about the lack of intesity and passion several years back this only served to wind me up even more .... maybe Nick had been told not to blow Costello off stage but it was very muted. Nick must have felt the gneral mood as he asked how many people were going to the shows in Brixton - a chorus of whoops rang out - and Nick added we are really going to rock you down there. Hmmm I thought ...why can't you rock us now ..... Needless to say the show was heavy on piano as No More Shall We Part had just been released - the polite ripples of applause as if we were attending a Rachmaninoff piano concerto recital got on my nerves for some reason - anyway I must have gotten over the experience as shortly after the concert I found myself buying No More Shall We Part and playing it a lot .....and really liking it. I realised then I was getting older and Nick was not the person I used to see 20 years previous - nor should I expect him to be - it just took some mental adjustment to let go of the past and those years that I wrote him off? ...well I can only look to the future now ....."
