From my notebook, written in the Ravinia parking lot after the show (abridged for use here):
My ears are still ringing. I'll never forget to bring earplugs to a string quartet concert again.
The Kronos Quartet, which usually ends its concerts with the Jimi Hendrix song "Purple Haze," instead ended with Hendrix's Woodstock version of the "Star Spangled Banner." There were processors and feedback and dissonance. The group sold it so well I almost thought they were going to smash their instruments after the piece.
