Take a portion of Southern Baptist, flavor it with a drop of Brooklyn, stir in a spoonful of Swiss chocolate — and you’ve created a powerhouse blues singing sensation and electrifying performer: Shakura S'Aida.

This 2008 International Blues Challenge runner-up in Memphis, competed against more than 100 bands from more than 20 different countries. Calling both Switzerland and Canada home since leaving the U.S. when she was eight years old, her professional involvement in the Canadian music scene has been ongoing for the past 20 years, enriching the jazz, blues and classic R&B communities with her soulful voice, enthusiastic personality and commitment to music as an art form. Whether speaking Swiss-German, French or English, Shakura connects to her audience is a way that is ‘simply dazzling,’ at the same time richly demonstrating the “multiculturalism” that Canada prides itself on.

Shakura S'Aida has been performing soulful blues and R&B around the world to international acclaim. Singing both original and traditional songs, Shakura has an immense range in her vocal repertoire. From slow-blues that draw the listener into an intensely passionate world to smooth and crisp jazz standards to hand-clapping grooves reminiscent of Etta James, Shakura owns the stage through every moment of her performance.

If the blues was born in the delta waters of the Mississippi, then Keith Hallett has managed to divert a torrent of blues energy through New Brunswick and into his playing. Hallett has a deep growl to his vocals and a mean approach to the fretboard and, although he's only twenty, his music embodies the world-weary wisdom of life characteristic of the best blues.
