A bit of a weird one this, as knowing what to expect was pretty impossible, what with Muse stepping up a level to full blown stadium act plus the fact that they were playing in a place that no-one had even seen yet.

The Stadium itself is about as impressive as a structure can be, you can (almost) appreciate where all the money went and the organisation inside was unbelievable. From the moment we got there, there wasn’t a queue to be seen with a huge staff presence both inside the stadium and on the pitch itself, directing, helping and also enforcing a rather strict smoking ban. Let’s not talk about the price of the food on offer though as it appeared that the pies must have been made out of gold and filled with angels tears at £4.50 a pop.

Onto the music and the only support act of note were Biffy Clyro who aired the majority of their great new album "Puzzle" plus a few oldies to a half-filled but appreciative Wembley.

At bang on 8.00pm Muse make their grand entrance, rising up into the middle of the stadium before making their way up to the impressively set up stage and ripping straight into "Knights of Cydonia". I always think that they somewhat throw this huge track away by playing it first but in order not to be dwarfed by their surroundings they needed to come out guns blazing and by the time the massive riff cracks open halfway through and the 70,000 strong crowd go off with it the whole stadium gig thing suddenly makes perfect sense. It's a long, long way from Teignmouth to Wembley Stadium but these boys have made it look easy.

Every track tonight sounds absolutely gigantic as the band whip through their substantial back catalogue continuing with the solid punch of "Hysteria" and the Prince on acid funk of "Supermassive Black Hole" the first half of the set firmly concentrating on the bands previous 2 albums. It takes until almost 40 minutes in, when Matt Bellamy takes a rest from being the worlds greatest guitar player and settles down at this piano, that we get anything from the first two albums, namely the Nina Simone cover "Feeling Good" and the awesome "Sunburn" which was definately the highlight of the night for me.

Slipping into poppier territory the singles "Invincible" and "Starlight" followed, before the set wrapped up with "Time is Running Out" and a monstrous twisted and extended version of "Newborn".

Completely dark by now the stage set came to life with massive glowing balloons, antennaes and Aerials created an epic, sci-fi backdrop.

As the band returned to the stage for the first encore and play back to back ballads with "Soldier’s Poem" and the beautiful "Unintended" two massive ballons appeared from either side of the stage with a silver clad gymnast suspended under each, proceeding to float over the crowd performing acrobatics, impressive to say the least if a little Spinal Tap, which isn’t a bad thing.

Back to rockier business and the second encore begins with a rasping "stockholm Syndrome" before the night draws to a close with the fitting "Take a Bow".

Any worries that Muse wouldn’t or couldn’t pull off a gig of this magnitude flew out of the window early doors, as they more than proved their stature as the county’s best live act around today, showing enough confidence, bombast and bravura to rock 70,000 people with the greatest of ease.

Absolutely amazing gig, fighting head-to-head with Muse @ Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust as the best gig I've ever been. I think I saw the HAARP dvd a dozen of times at least and every time it amazes me. After all 2 bands I love (Biffy Clyro and MCR) + my fave band (Muse) at the amazing Wembley Stadium is a winner, no doubt!
