I think this was Wilco concert number 5 maybe, and I think I enjoyed it more than ever. As with Sky Blue Sky, I don't think the new album is outstanding on record but live pretty much everything was 50% better, and just like on the record Bull Black Nova was absolutely thrilling.
As a setlist, this was Wilco at their hardest and loudest which suits me fine. I missed quieter songs like Muzzle of Bees and Misunderstood but they've got so many songs that are incredible live I didn't notice at the time. Favourites: Bull Black Nova, Shot in the Arm, Impossible Germany, AT Least That's what she said, I'm the man that love you.
I really liked the venue, great sound quality for a band like Wilco but still pretty loud. Did anyone else notice Jeff forget the 3rd verse of Radio Cure and launch into the coda and then have to correct himself?!!! Or did I imagine that...

First time seeing Wilco after a lot of near misses. One of the tightest bands I've seen in a long time. Nice set list even if no Via Chicago. Cline was awesome.

Liked the Troxy as a room - quite like the Forum when it was the Town & Country - but the location isn't easy to get to, even when they don't close the tube.

Venue: My first time there and really liked it although I thought it was an odd place to have a gig. Looking forward to going back in November.
Performance: Incredible. They were tight, they seemed into it and they weren't too static, especially Nels and Pat. The fact that it was Jeff's birthday made it all the more special and he seemed in great spirits.
Setlist: Played a lot of what I wanted and also missed a lot, but you can't have it all. Every song they played was excpetional anyway.
Highlights: Bull Black Nova, Can't Stand It, Spiders

As an experiment here is my stream of tweets from the gig as a review:
All of wilco's flight cases have gatetohell.net stencilled on them, unfortunately its a rental place not some guerilla fan site | Troxy is a really nice venue. Art deco and lots of space. | Wilco concerts sure do bring out a lot of dudes with beards wearing plaid! | Its jeff tweedy's birthday today so the roadie just brought him out a cake! | "Everybody gather round, we're going to share this, everybody gets a piece"

Sorry for my horrible photos, guys. It was Jeff Tweedy's birthday, so they brought him a cake as we sang "Happy Birthday" and shot off glitter guns. Everyone was covered in shiny stars and hearts. Pretty magical. He got us to sing "We are the Champions" a cappella for his birthday... Silly but fun.

I am so excited! For their gig on July 19 they played a bunch of old stuff, so I'm really hoping they play stuff from YHF and A Ghost is Born. If they play California Stars, I can die a happy lady. As Anikainlondon would say... "EEEEEEEE!!!!!!:

I'm also mostly terrified that their new album will be wack. I really didn't like Sky Blue Sky. Ghost and YHF are classics though.

Me too! I didn't like the weird jammy feeling of Sky Blue Sky--it sounded like easy listening. I caught them on the SBS tour and it wasn't the greatest experience. In America, at least, bros abound at their shows. Still, Wilco holds a special place in my heart forever.

What's the Troxy like? Looks like a really good venue to see Wilco from the venues website.
