    "The first rock concert I went to was in 1978 in a tiny sports arena in Lewiston, Maine, a thoroughly blue-collar town packed with hard rock fans. The fading but hard-rocking British band Uriah Heep opened for the upcoming, sorta-hard-rocking midwest American act R.E.O. Speedwagon. High point of the show for me was a long, loud solo performance by Speedwagon guitarist Gary Richrath, the underarms of his shirt dripping wet in the spotlights as he traded sexy guitar licks with the audience's roars of approval. My parents had been pushing me to choose a career. I did, right there.
