My friend was in a group called Culture Clash Dance Party - they managed to fuse a whole range of different styles pop, rock, reggae and rap with a revolving cast of members - all helmed by the Batcave and nightclub DJ supreme - Hamish . Astoria was a great venue for these types of gigs at the time - they brought over people such as Salt n' Pepa, Whodini, Schoolly D and many others which hopefully I have noted down so can provide dates.
I really liked London Posse (Rodney P and Bionic) who were unashamedly UK rappers but there was such a gulf in difference at that time between UK and US artists. Even the DJs were pretty basic when compared to say Red Alert, Marley Marl or Chuck Chillout in the States - Westwood just didn't compare. Seeing artists like Doug E Fresh live at this time when it was all about skillz rather than billz was incredible.
