I don't think there was a bad crowd at all - is there such thing as a perfect crowd anyways?!! everyone hates a certain kind of person... At the end of the day it's what you make it, and yes the Sunday line-up was a tad pants BUT Rodrigo y Gabriela, as tjsmasque says, were AMAAAAAAZING....Simian Mobile Disco got everyone dancing and Bombay Bicycle Club were as endearing as ever. Plus there was mucho fun to be had dancing in the Tree House area and going back to your childhood on fairground rides :)

Ooh thanks for your review! I've been toying with the idea of going to see Rodrigo y Gabriela at KOKO, but was on the fence... think I may go after all.

Seriously they take your breath away - I've seen them twice now each time it's just even more amazing. Really want to go to the Koko show too but I think it's sold out :(

Damn. I think I wouldn't have wanted to see them at KOKO anyways, I don't think that would be the best for them. Last summer they played at Roundhouse -- I think that would have been good!

Well, you can't really blame the "crowd" given the weather and the line up: Part of the crowd came to party with their mates and dance in the Rizla arena while drinking cider before heading to Groove Armada, and I'm sure they had loads of fun.
But you could also come to see exciting "live music" and discover new bands (which were not that commercial, i mean compared to wireless) .
Plus the weather was not THAT bad (it could have been even worse), and the Lovebox festival is quite well organised, which is always good ...
Probably because of the line up it was really not crowded on Sunday afternoon, hence you could stand next to the front barrier for almost all gigs (except Groove Armada:), enjoy the music and take pictures yeah!
Favs : Rodrigo y Gabriela were AMAZING, Noah and the Whale's sound becomes really good, the Fly/Last.FM tent was definitely fun (Magistrates, Dananananaykroyd, although Chew Lips missed her flight boooo) and Groove Armada threw a great finale in Victoria Park !

Sounds like the same sort of crowd that was at 02 Wireless. Pretty dire. How big was the stage Au Revoir Simone played on? I like them alot.

I have camped at numerous festivals and I have also been to Lovebox a couple of times. The whole reason Groove Armada set up Lovebox was to have the atmosphere of a festival close to home without the camping.
I think you may have just had a bad experience as I found myself surrounded by happy, fun festival-goers (no hen parties in sight!) who were all there to enjoy themselves - not just for the music on stage - there was lots going on all over the place. For example I came across a Jive band that was definitely a highlight of the weekend - had not been planning on that!

I agree that the selection of artists was not the best but you will never enjoy every single act at a small festival like Lovebox.

And as for the field being full of "people chewing their faces off" - you seriously didn't expect that?!?!?!?

think you need to open your eyes - sounds to me like you had blinkers on!

If I'd gone on the Sunday I think it would have been a different story, as there were loads of bands I wanted to see, and maybe I'd have taken my "blinkers" (!?) off. But at the end of the day, I didn't go out of my way to buy a ticket for this, for the exact reason why I ended up not enjoying it. That's all.

Arrgghh, what to do?! Toooo many police early on, I swear there were more police than punters. Come on guys, we're all going to a festival to have fun, let us be!

But, Friendly Fires were *superb*! So, so good, can't wait to see them again. For them alone (they seriously made my weekend!) Lovebox gets 5 stars. And I didn't even go on the Sunday...
