T in the Park is a music festival which began life in 1994. It is named after its main sponsor Tennants (the brewing company). Originally based at Strathclyde Park, Lanarkshire, the festival moved to its present home at a disused airfield in Balado, Kinross-shire in 1997.
The festival spans several musical arenas over a three day period in July and covers different genres of music across the pop, indie, alternative, electronic and rock scene. Previous headliners include Coldplay, Blur, Oasis, Pulp, Primal Scream, Beyoncé and Arctic Monkeys. The event represents the best talent across the full musical spectrum and has developed over the years into one of the most popular outings in the UK’s festival calendar.
By 2005, T in the Park Festival had gone on to beat festival heavy-weights Glastonbury to the top spot of Best Festival in the UK Festival Awards for the first time since they began. They went to on to gain further accreditation with the award for Best Line Up in the 2008 UK Festival Awards and in October 2011, T in the Park was awarded the prestigious Greener Festival Award for reducing its environmental impact (for 2011).
