Additional details

According to Canadian reggae artist (Dr) Jason Wilson, Scottish and Irish music arrived in Jamaica roughly simultaneously with mento and ska’s slavery-borne African roots, playing an under-recognised role in reggae’s evolution. He also identifies all these sounds as rebel music, the unifying concept behind Lion Rampant, his ambitious new album with English fiddle icon Dave Swarbrick, showcased here with two more of Wilson’s key collaborators, Scotland’s ever-rebellious Dick Gaughan and ex-James Brown/Van Morrison bandleader Pee Wee Ellis.

Championed by such high-profile fans as Bob Harris, Danny Thompson and Chuck Berry, Edinburgh-born singer/guitarist Fraser Anderson combines introspective lyricism and inventive open tunings in a style often likened to early John Martyn.
