I thought the sound was generally a little quiet on the main stage (or have I damaged my hearing since the last Reading I went to)??

I think there was maybe a tic tac to not have too heavy bands for the headlines however the 'rioting' did still go on, my Mum's a Festival nurse and she said carnage night just moved from the usual Sunday night to after Prodigy on the Sat! However I still had a great time on the Gamers and loved watching Radio Head, a band I have been wanting to see for a long time!

EmilyS from all the reports of the tents I heard I can completely believe you. I was working on a stand on the main stage so unfortunately only got to see Them Crooked Vultures and Broken Records in tents. You are so right the sound was just being blown away and for a few acts I couldn't hear the bands at all - shame

I've never had a disappointing time at Reading and this year was no different. But as bumblebee says, there was a certain lacking of atmosphere - I only found this for the headline acts though. I think it was due to the sound quality being so dire. For me I rarely find main stage sets as entertaining as the tent sets anyways. It's like a stadium compared with a small gig venue. You need an amaazing sound system to pull it off and a really up for it crowd. Sadly neither of those were there this year.

Everything I saw in a tent though was great and there was never a shortage of atmosphere for any of those sets, so I'll still give it a generous 4 stars overall.

Plus there's something about Reading that I love. I've bought my ticket for next year already.

I agree with Kirstiann, it wasn't as good as previous years I have been, there was a definite lacking of atmosphere on Friday and most of Saturday. The Prodigy and Bloc Party completely stole the show on the main stage. They set everyone up into party mood only for the headlines to kill it again. I know the headlines for all the days are great bands but they didn't leave me with that wow factor, Friday had my favourite band Chiefs playing who did a good set but it wasn't their best. I have come back glad I went as I had a fantastic time all in all but it did feel lacklustre, which clearly effected some of the bands as they didnt put in their best shows and in turn effected the crowd who became less appreciative and thus a knock on.
I can only guess they put those particular headline acts to keep the crowd manageable and stop rioting but if so they did it at the expense of the majority. After both Prodigy and Bloc Party it felt the festival had finished only for another band to come on.
Still I can't wait for next year and did have a little sad moment when the tent was packed up.

I'm not going to say it was shit, but it just wasn't as good as last year.
