"As Festinho is quite a small event, it is very tempting to wander around and get the most out of the quirky little sideshows, so most bands playing the main stage had to start from scratch and drag the audience in. There was little lounging in the field hosting live music in between acts, which was a test of nerve for many, and several came through with flyers colours, playing to a lively, responsive audience they'd drawn in over a few songs.
The gold medal must go to the Cuban Brothers, who started with DJ Russ Cuban playing an awesome medley of disco classics cut to the beat of James Brown's "Funky President". This proved a most effective method, like a Covent Garden busker who simply makes a lot of noise, albeit rather stylish noise, of drawing in several hundred people. By the time Miguel (Mike Keat) hit the stage in his white cape, he already had a captive and up for it crowd.
Their show combined comedy, stylish dancing and some very quirky observations that left everybody smiling and wondering if the kids had understood the vibrator jokes or not.
From moon walking on roller skates to spinning on their heads the duo aptly called Double Penetration complemented Miguel's raps and jokes perfectly. Their closing of the festival was also a piece of programming genius.
Collecting the silver medal was Crazy P, who like the Black Eyed Peas have decided that the best way to make it, is to get a really sexy diva to front the band. The empty field soon filled up with a gyrating, back stepping crowd as the sun set magnificently behind the stage. Crazy Penis were always accomplished musicians, but having metamorphosized into a tight disco outfit with a more accessible name and a lively, talented lead singer, they should do very well.
Their songs are catchy, danceable and basically fun. I have not danced to every single song in a band's set for a very long time...
Bronze....well that is another story."
