The Manchester Evening News Arena is one of Europe's largest indoor arenas, with a maximum capacity of 21,000. The Arena attracts over a million visitors per year and has hosted some of the biggest names in contemporary music.
The Arena was opened in 2005, initially sponsored by NYNEX, a British cable television provider. The Arena became sponsored by the Manchester Evening News in 1998. The Arena was built in a bid to bring the Olympic Games to Manchester. Based on ticket sales from 2001-2007 the venue claimed the throne as 'World's Busiest Arena'.
