Pure Groove started life as a record shop in Archway, North London in 1989. Needing a bigger space, the shop relocated to West Smithfields in June 2008. A refurbishment at the start of 2009 transformed the space into what is now primarilly a cafe, which hosts a huge variety of live music instores, all for free, most days of the week. The shop sells beers, teas, coffees, juices and a selection of records and merchandise.

Instores are always free and all ages, and typically start at either 1.15 or 6.30. Pure Groove is a short walk from either Barbican or Farringdon Underground statio…

    Pure Groove get such a killer selection of bands for their lunchtime shows. Well worth the cycle over to Smithfield.

    What would I do without Pure Groove and its awesome lunchtime instores? The calibre of acts they put on is pretty amazing, it's much smaller and cosier than Rough Trade East and what's more, it's less then 10 minutes walk from my office. WIN.

    Pure Groove is an excellent place to go to catch free music. They have instore gigs at lunch and in the evenings. The shop used to sell quite a selection of cds and vinyl, but after a transformation at the start of 2009 the place is well and truly no longer a record shop. It's more of a bar that also has a few cds and puts on bands. They have free wifi (I think) and all sorts of drinks for sale. Always keep an eye on their instore gig list, they've always got bands in and they manage to get some really fantastic acts.
