Re: "This concert moved from Relentless Garage to The Garage" Yay! I really don't think we should be calling venues by their brand sponsored names - they're bound to change again in a year or so... The Garage is the common denominator...

I've not been to this new incarnation yet (and I hope to avoid doing so), but the previous one was pretty horrible...

not sure why the fuss with the toilets near the stage, they have always been there in The Garage and they are right up against the wall so you can move more in or to the back of the venue to see the band without the loo kids bothering you. I loved the venue, it reminds me of ULU which I also like, the bar is out of the way at the back and on a raised platform, the sound desk creates a nice island for the leaner's amongst us and the pit is bigger than I remember it being before it closed. Venues are never perfect but this one ticks enough of the boxes for me to want to go again and quickly.

The toilets right next to the stage thing is ridiculous, and can be very distracting, even with a loud band playing. The decor has an attempt at being very soulful, but as anika said it really ends up being quite souless and actually doing the opposite, and the 'Relentless' energy drink brand advertising on the walls and around the venue are a big turn off - you don't pay money to watch a billboard. It makes the experience better when venues have bundles of character and almost a sense of charm, and the Garage has absolutely none of it.

Good points? Sound seemed good (Pains of Being Pure at Heart) and it's right next to Highbury & Islington station, which is on the fast Victoria Line. But in my opinion, you really have to like the band you are going to see to put up with it. There's a lot to dislike.

I've only been once, but I'm not a fan. They put the toilets next to the stage, so during bands' sets people are constantly walking past the stage, which is especially distracting when the artists are playing quiet music. It's also very clinical, and the branding is all over the place. A bit soul less really.

Great review! I didn't know that, now I'm questioning whether to see Sunset Rubdown there.
