Exceeded expectations. Bob Weir truly gets better with age. Vocally, he sounds better than he has in several years. That may be attributed to his excellent physical condition. He’s fitter than ever at 73 (?). Mayer and Weir are the perfect combo. Brilliant musicians. Amazing to see John play on Jerry’s prized Wolf guitar that was auctioned off for some crazy record breaking price. The set list was tight; only song I really missed hearing was Eyes of the World. Would love to hear John’s vocals on Fire on the Mountain again. Not the best song for Oteil, yet he brings a lot much synergy to the band. Jeff Chimenti also stole the show on a few occasions. Not sure I’ll go back to CitiField to see them for a 4th time. I’d take MSG over that. Better yet, the Beacon or Red Rocks gets my vote.
My name is Russ Lian. I live in Farmington New York I’ve been seeing the grateful dead or dead related shows since the mid-70s. I’ve seen many lead guitarist come and go since the passing of Jerry Garcia. To say who is filled Jerry Garcias The best I would have to say it is John Mayer. As for Bob Weir he has definitely slowed down the tempo. Now I know a little bit about music and the drummers set the tempo in most bands. Last nights show was very disappointing for me at Saratoga. Technically the tempo is just too slow. They sound like a bluesy jazz band with some dead moments yes. Not a hater I’m a fan but when it’s bad it’s bad. Thank you
Bob and the Wolf Bros. gave an inspired performance of tunes that covered the spectrum of his catalog! Opening with 'Bertha',we were treated to 'El Paso', Dylan's'Desolation Row',Bob's 'Lay my Lily down' and finished the first set with 'Wharf Rat'> 'Deal'.
The second set tempo went back and forth between slow tunes and uptempo numbers.'Music never stopped' >'Easy Answers','Hes gone'>'Other one'>'Days between '>'China Cat Sunflower'> 'I know you rider' finished the evening rocking the rafters! Encoring with 'Black Muddy River' Bob and the brothers left us with great memories and hunger for more in the future.
