French Montana

French Montana - born Karim Kharbouch - was born in Rabat, Morocco, but just in case you’re thinking that might mean that he’s a different breed of rapper to the lavish-living materialists that have dominated the scene for the past decade or so, it’s probably worth pointing out that he has his own record label, and it’s called Cocaine City Records. Indeed, Montana was raised in South Bronx, New York from the age of thirteen, and there became ingratiated into a society that was ripe for hip hop; taking all his cues from the legendary East Coast likes of Nas, The Notorious B.I.G. and Wu-Tang Clan, Montana began to produce mixtapes in 2002, a series that would eventually see him sign with Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group and P. Diddy’s Bad Boy Records in a joint venture deal. Since then, he’s enjoyed commercial success, with his debut album, Excuse My French, going in at number four on the U.S. charts last year. It was, however, widely savaged by critics, who saw Montana’s aggressive, repetitive sound and shallow lyricism to be counter-productive in the current hip hop scene. That hasn’t stopped him from packing out rooms when he goes on tour, though, with a three-date UK tour sparking chaotic scenes in London, Manchester and Birmingham last year; if nothing else, Montana is a born performer.

Karim Kharbouch known by his stage name French Montana is a Moroccan born, American raised rapper. He founded Cocaine City Records in 2012 and since then the young artist has been on a steady rise within in the hip hop industry having collaborated with the likes of Rick Ross and Harry Fraud.

The critics began to take note of the outspoken artist after the founding of his record label which was around the same time fans began to hear his collaborations and early mix tapes. Therefore when Karim's debut 'Excuse My French' dropped there was a readymade fan base and it charted well in the States. With an accomplished live performance to match the album's stature, the rapper knows how to conduct a show for his loyal following.

Often playing onstage with an extensive entourage, all the recent favourites such as 'Ocho Cinco' and 'Sanctuary' are brought out to keep the crowds jumping. Montana's hype man encourages shoulder climbing and hands in the air for 'Pop That' before a heavy rendition of 'Bad Bitch' leaves the crowds with sore feet and even sorer throats from cheering.

I really enjoyed seeing French Montana at summer jam 17 he brought an energy to the stage that I wasn't expecting glad that he was there and with summer jam being the first concert I have gone to I would like to see French Montana more when he is around the Boston area
