Zakir Hussein is not only a talented multi-instrumentalist, but also an all round talented man, counting film production and acting among his other talents. However, these other talents are left at the door, with the focus just on his fantastic musical skill. With just his table – a seemingly simple instrument – the wealth of sounds he is able to get out of it is truly astounding. Calmly seated centre stage, you get the same he would perform with the same intensity and skill if he was playing the Royal Albert Hall, or sitting round a fire in some small Indian village – and this idea gives his set a beautiful and humbling quality – you feel you could be the only person watching the performance, yet her barely interacts with the audience verbally, instead doing it though the purity and beauty of his music. He is often joined by other instruments – their players just as accomplished in their own respective instruments – yet there is never a sense of competition or one-upmanship that would accompany this joining of forces in a rock setting. Instead, they just create an even more beautiful and mesmerising sound together. If you get the chance – definitely check Zakir Hussein out.

Sincerely, One of his biggest USA fans!!! I love you Zak I wish you would come back to Dallas Tx. I could have made the Kansas City Ms. concert if songkick would have sent me the notice earlier.
I am so heartbroken!!!!
Brilliant culmination of international percussive performers. Zakir creates a tapestry of sound that thrilled the room with cultural ancestry mixed with poetic narrative and comic relief interspersed with insane speeds and responses calling back and forth between the players.
The last show I saw him perform in was 20 years ago with Ravi Shankar and his daughter. This was a beautiful reunion to witness and grateful for this opportunity to see him play amongst such fantastic representatives of diverse music styles intertwined.
