Milton Nascimento is a national treasure in Brazil. His music is a fabulous blend of jazz with Brazilian and Portuguese traditional styles that sounds absolutely delectable, as if Milton was aways destined to be on this Earth to create beautiful, beautiful music. He has a huge vocal range which he exploits to its full capabilities in his songs, with a tender falsetto that is heart-wrenchingly moving. He is a prolific composer, releasing over 40 albums. Highly regarded works include "Canção da América," "Bailes Da Vida" and "Travessia."
Seeing his performance of "Travessia" at Jazz Day in 2013 was an incredible experience. The sound he produced sounded as if there was a whole orchestra behind him, when in fact there was only a small group of accompanists. His full guitar sound just seemed so rich and textured, as if there were several string players behind him. Hs soulful voice swept throughout the concert hall, warming deeply the ears of the audience. It is such a romantically smooth song full of depth it is impossible not to be moved by his performance. He has had an illustrious career over many years yet he still appears to sound as fresh as he did when first starting out, with his music being timeless in its beauty. A fabulous talent that deserves to be appreciated more widely.
One of the best concerts of my life. Milton is really a music genius. The energy he brings to the stage with his rhythm, poetry, harmony, melody, is absolutely extraordinary. What a gift.
