Concrete Knives are a band from France who has adopted a sort of throwback indie pop rock sort of sound, even down to the way that they carry themselves on stage, sporting vintage instruments, probably made the year that they were born or something “cool” like that.
They are pretty enchanting to watch live, with a wild concoction of chorused delays on the guitars, fused with some vintage synthesizers, and ironic percussion, they blast right into their song “Africanize”, which is a sort of mid tempo song that rapidly engages this audience into dancing like is 1979. Their next song “Truth” is a fun song with a heavy backbeat complete with some hipster maracas. A lot of the time, the two front singers sing in unison, which makes an odd sound, as their unison doesn’t quite lock the way it should making a bit of a chorus effect on their voices. They finish with a song called “Brand New Start” which is possibly their biggest hit to date, encompassing the set that they have just played in style.
