I’d not heard much of Vinicio Capossela’s music before I went to see him perform live, and I was a little apprehensive that the language barrier might be a problem and prevent me from enjoying the show, but I was definitely wrong. Italian really is the language of love, and the way that Capossela felt the emotion and narrative in his songs translated perfectly to his audience, and I felt that he told the stories wonderfully through his tone and style.
He opened the show with Nel Niente Sollo Il Sole, and got everyone singing along. Although I didn’t know the words or understand the lyrics, the tune was catchy and straight forward, so I found myself joining in with the crowd. He played a great selection of acoustic and plugged in tracks on his guitar and piano, and with a full band, so the show was really varied and there wasn’t a dull moment throughout.
Capossela kept shouting out to the audience to join in with him, and in his more up tempo tracks he got everyone on their feet dancing along with him. As well as his incredible voice, he’s a seasoned musician, and acted as a member of his jazz styled band throughout the show whilst providing the vocals.
