Mike Dierickx, aka. Push, is an extremely talented Dj and producer of progressive trance music. I’d heard much of his music before and have been a fan of Universal Nation since it’s release, so I was pretty excited to see him perform live at XOYO. I was expecting a normal, but great, DJ set, but my expectations were totally exceeded. I had no idea that he would also be performing live on sampling pads, synths, and other instruments with the help of his backing musicians.
DJ sets are great, with a wonderful atmosphere, but the live creation of music that Push provided was something else entirely. As well as mixing his pre recorded tracks on his turn tables, he was mastering the synth, warping the sounds, and using samples whilst his drummer and other sampler worked away fantastically with him. He opened the show with R.E.S.P.E.C.T which had everyone dancing along right away. When he wasn’t crazy busy playing, Push would pick up his microphone and shout out for everyone to dance along, which was a lot of fun to hear him really interact with us in the audience.
The show was over 2 hours long, and the musicians maintained their energy throughout, making sure they gave an incredible show to everyone there. I really will say that this is the best DJ set I’ve ever seen.
