Biography
Balance and Composure came together in 2007, formed out of the remnants of two local bands during their high school years. After several years establishing their sound, their debut album, “Separation,” arrived in 2011, finding critical acclaim. The album was full of anthemic, melodic guitar work alongside hard-hitting lyricism, making them an exciting prospect in the underground music scene.
Extensive touring followed the release of their debut, playing alongside the likes of Circa Survive, La Dispute, Title Fight and Touché Amore. In 2013, they embarked on their first US headlining tour, brining along The Jealous Sound for support. The tour was hugely successful, selling out venues in Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston and New York.
They returned to the studio in 2013 to record their second album, “The Things We Think We’re Missing,” which went on to be a huge success. The album peaked at number 51 on the US Billboard 200, as well as breaking into the Top 20 of the Independent Albums Chart, the Modern Rock/Alternative Albums and Rock Albums Chart. Another powerful, emotive release, the members of Balance and Composure, Jon Simmons (vocals, guitar), Erik Petersen (guitar), Andy Playmaker (guitar, backing vocals), Matt Warner (bass) and Bailey Van Ellis (drums), have found legions of fans across the US.
Live reviews
I went to the show to see From Indian Lakes. However, I have to tip my cap to Balance and Composure. Great energy, despite the singer's having a bout of the flu. I couldn't tell. What heart! And what a gracious performer: he thanked the opening acts twice. Total class. I bought their CD, and I have to say I'm coming around to them!
Loved it! The venue was really interesting and it gave a great sound! Band was pretty down to earth. The lead singer sings exactly like he sounds on his albums, even better I might say. "Tiny raindrop, Dirty Head and Notice Me" were my favorite!
