Biography
Born and raised in Longview, Texas, Carrington later earned local fame and a cult following for his extensive touring of the U.S.’s comedy circuit, and became a familiar voice on syndicated morning radio shows including “The Bob and Tom Show”. The talented country comedian made his recording debut with “Hangin’ with Rodney” in 1998 issued on Mercury Records Nashville. The album – like his stand-up routine – was a combination of comedy and original songs, spawned the single “Letter to My Penis” and peaked at No. 73 on the Top Country Albums.
After the release Carrington moved to Capitol Nashville records who issued his sophomore album “Morning Wood” in 2000, continuing the comedian’s trend of genital-themed album names. The album broke the Country Top 20, aided by the single “More of a Man”, which reached No. 71 on Hot Country Singles & Tracks. Carrington subsequently released the live album “Live: C’mon Laugh You Bastards” and his third full length “Nut Sack” in 2003.
In 2004 the comedian successful landed his own sitcom titled “Rodney” which last for two seasons until 2006. The exposure greatly aided his fourth full-length album “King of the Mountains”, which peaked at No. 15 on the US County chart and No. 68 on the Billboard 200. After co-starring and writing the film “Beer for My Horse” alongside Toby Keith, Carrington issued his fifth full-length “El Niño Loco” in 2009 – his first album to feature all songs. The seasonal album “Make It Christmas”, Carrignton’s most serious album to date was released at the tail end of 2009, and his sixth studio album “Laughter’s Good” arrived in 2014.
Live reviews
As an actor, stand-up comic, country music singer and wearer of triumphant cowboy hats, it’s safe to say that Rodney Carrington really can do it all. His live show provides a fantastic fusion of all his talents, packed full of jokes and stories that really get the crowd going. Sometimes it’s hard to hear Rodney over the laughter. The really unique thing about Rodney’s shows though, is the music. Many comedians incorporate music into their routines but few do it with songs as finely-crafted as Rodney’s. His warm, country warble would be worth getting tickets for on its own but he utilises it amazingly to give heart to songs that are charming, funny and always catchy. Rodney is a true variety act and his ability to deliver all the facets of his personality without comprising on the quality makes for a wonderfully well-rounded show. Crowds will be tapping their feet all the way through the laughter and always coming back to see Rodney delivering new jokes and new songs.
This was by far the best show I have ever been to!!!! Would definitely see Rodney again!!! Would love to see him in the Edmonton area more often. Had the chance for a meet and greet and that was awesome. Turns out my brother inlaw myself and Rodney all look alike. We're his Canadian brothers. Would have like the chance to spend a little more time with him and offer up a few ideas I have that he could have maybe used in future shows. I bought 3 t-shirts 2 plastic cups a hat and 2 posters for the meet and greet. A few more options would have been good. Really liked that he incorporated the Canadian flag into the poster and the t-shirt!! Nice touch. All in all I had a great time at the concert as did the other 10 people I was with. Money well spent and we would and will all be going again when Mr. Rodney Carrington comes back to Edmonton!!!!
Thanks for a hell of a night Rodney!!!!!!
Yours truly
