If you’re looking for a concert where you are guaranteed to be bored, standing still and watching one spot on the stage for the entire time, Vanessa Hudgens is not the woman to place your bets on. The twenty five year old diva is perhaps best known for her role as Gabriella Montez in the High School Musical films, for which she received numerous nominations and awards. Her fame only grew as songs from the soundtrack began to earn places on music charts all over the world, including the well-known song “Breaking Free” reaching the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. She then released two albums between 2006 and 2008, which brought her great success, with her debut album “V” selling 34, 000 copies in its first week. The success of her Identified Summer Tour reflects the magnificence of her live concerts, as many of its dates sold out. Hudgens is a born-performer, strutting around the stage in a mixture of casual and eye-catching costumes. Her energy on stage while performing hits like “Sneakernight” and “Hook It Up” make it impossible for anyone in the audience to remain still, without a smile on their face. It’s hard to know where to look as Hudgens and her entourage of backing dancers throw themselves into intricate dance routines. However, the eye continues to wander back to the woman herself as passion radiates out of her and she matches the ability of the highly trained dancers surrounding her. If one thing’s for sure, it’s that Vanessa Hudgens does not disappoint.
One of the most notable features of High School Musical, the Disney movie that nobody could quite decide on whether or not it was a self-aware poke at the genre that its title describes or just an extremely formulaic retread of tired old tropes, was not necessarily its massive, and totally unexpected, success at the box office, but the legacy it went onto have, inspiring hugely successful television series like Glee and launching the careers of its stars; Vanessa Hudgens, who played the female lead, followed co-star Ashley Tisdale in pursuing dual careers in both music and acting. She’s released two solo albums to date, 2006’s gold-certified V and its 2008 follow-up, Identified, and whilst there’s no real evidence that she managed to expand her fanbase notably past High School Musical followers, her debut tour of the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2008 saw her eschew music from the films, instead focusing on her own material at impressively-sized venues. She’s focused on acting since, but has a good enough grounding now both on stage and in the studio to make any return a seamless one, should she be so inclined; she’s already achieved more in the pop field than most by her age.
