Live reviews
I saw Chiddy Bang twice within a six month span in two completely different venues, yet both experiences were absolutely amazing. They had only just released their EP but Opposite of Adults was already huge. It's possible my experiences will not be repeated, seeing that they've gained more mainstream success since then, but I think the overall show experience has remained very much the same. First, they played at my university for a spring festival. They were still mostly unknown and yet the crowd loved it. Chiddy was engaging with the audience which made it feel like he really cared he was there, not just playing another show on the college circuit. As always, he did a freestyle incorporating words and phrases that Xaphoon picked up from the crowd. Flawless. It was an incredibly perfect show and I heard that he took a girl from my English Lit class home. Hot. The second time I saw Chiddy I was in Scotland and they played the Arches. Even for a big venue, the concert had such a sense of intimacy. Again, Xaphoon took notes from the audience for Chiddy's freestyle and when I shouted "The trapped Chilean Miners" he took that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1czqaz4gXk8 enjoy. They put on a good show, and always have such positive attitudes. It's like watching your friends on stage. It feels close and friendly, like everyone is just here to chill out, have a good time, and listen to some amazing beats, coupled with Chiddy's signature smooth style.
Philadelphia rapper Chidera Anamege, now known by his stage name Chiddy Bang is a pretty recognisable name on both sides of the Atlantic despite only breaking out in 2010. His continued sampling of alternative artists such as MGMT, Ellie Goulding and Passion Pit has seen his reputation grow even further.
His first album was considered a success in his homeland and he opens the show confidently with the title track 'Breakfast'. He has no issue performing solo following the departure of Noah Beresin and seems to thrive on the attention the crowd gives him as they cheer and scream as he steps towards the front row. The set is not particularly long yet it fits the purpose and features the cult favourites along with hits such as 'Ray Charles' 'Truth' and his breakout 'Opposite of Adults'. The rapper stands in a great position on the eve of a new release with a great debut and a strong fanbase supporting him all the way through.
