Biography
Front man, Michael Fitzpatrick is the brain behind the operation that is Fitz and The Tantrums. He bought an old Conn electronic organ and wrote the song “Breakin’ the Chains of Love”, the same day. He contacted his college peers, and five phone conversations later, organised a rehearsal. One week later, they played their first show at Hotel Café in Hollywood. Still as a newborn band, they played some of Los Angeles’ most prestigious venues such as the Viper Room and Spaceland. After heading into the studio, which was a set up in Fitzpatrick’s home, they released their first EP on August 11th 2009.
This year was all ‘go’, with the band managing to land support slows with Hepcat, Flogging Molly, and even eight concerts on the Maroon 5 Back to School tour. The following year saw the band open for The Specials, and signed to Dangerbird Records. They also released their debut studio album, in the form of “Pickin’ Up the Pieces”, which was released on August 24th 2010.
They even got invited to play in a webisode of Live from Daryl’s House with Daryl Hall. In 2011, they made it onto some of the biggest late night TV shows, such as, Jimmy Kimmel Live! Conan, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the following year, on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
They have earned themselves a lot of spots on TV shows, with their song “News 4 U” making it on to a promo for the seventh season of Desperate Housewives. “Spark” was featured on the FIFA 13 soundtrack, and “Walker” made it onto an episode of Suits.
Their following record, “More Than Just a Dream” was released on May 7th 2013 through a new label, Elektra Records.
Live reviews
My sister and I have been fans of Fitz & the Tantrums since the release of their debut album Pickin’ Up the Pieces, and we were so excited to see them after the release of their second album, More Than Just a Dream. We saw Fitz & the Tantrums at the Aragon Ballroom, and it was such a memorable night for so many reasons. The Aragon is my favorite venue that I have been to. It’s a huge, two-story building that has this regality with architecture that kind of looks like it could be Moroccan/European influenced. There are many magnificent archways and chandeliers and the details on the walls and pillars are breathtaking. Upon entering the main room where the stage was set up, I was blown away: I immediately looked up and to my surprise, the ceiling looked like I was looking up at a sky full of stars. The Aragon is literally so beautiful, and I wish all the concerts that I’ve been to could have been there. Because I was about to hear great music in such an incredible place, I knew from the start that this was going to be such an amazing experience. After recovering from an amazing opening act by Capital Cities, my friends and I were jittery with anticipation for Fitz to start. They came out full of energy and enthusiasm. The lead singer, Michael Fitzpatrick , was so excited to be in Chicago, and he thanked us for helping sell out the show. Fitz & the Tantrums know how to put on a show. They had an amazing array of different instruments that they used, like the saxophone, multiple types of percussion, and keyboards. They are a band that expects their audience to get down, and get down we did. The other vocalist, Noelle, showed us all that she could MOVE! Plus she had an amazing range that complemented Michael’s voice so well. They were so in sync with each other and they both showed off their sick moves on the stage. The stage setup was amazing: there was a giant heart that resembled their album cover and was made out of colorful lights that bounced off the stage into the crowd. At one point during the concert, they slowed things down a little and Noelle and Michael serenaded us while the ceiling lit up with lights that made it look like the stars were moving in the sky. Fitz didn’t keep the tempo slowed down for very long though; they continued to produce amazing dance music that sounded so good, even better than their audio recordings. They mostly played songs from their latest album, but for the encore, they played their classic hit, L.O.V. (which is my favorite song of theirs) to close out the night. Hearing that song just on audio doesn’t do it justice. It was amazing live, and everyone was so turned up by that point of the show. Michael had the audience all crouch down and wait for the music to build. When it was time, we all jumped up and suddenly there was pink confetti everywhere, descending down on us! They extended the song, to everyone’s delight, and the trumpet player from Capital Cities came out and did a solo. I still can’t believe I got to witness such amazing talent that night. Even after the band finally left the stage, the party still continued: Major Lazer was blasting from the speakers, and my friends and I started dancing with random people – which turned into a dance party for everyone. It was such a fun night full of wonderful music in a poppin’ venue filled with people who loved to get down.
This was one of the best concerts I've seen for sure. The lineup was Panic at the Disco, Twenty One Pilots, Fitz and the Tantrums, Walk the Moon, and Magic Man. It doesn't matter whether you were on the lawn or in the pit for the show, you still had an amazing time. Magic Man opened up strong and impressed me and lots of other people. Walk the Moon got everyone on their feet and dancing with their amazing performance. Fitz and the Tantrums made everyone feel awesome with their music. The saxophone and the energy is something you just can't describe. Twenty One Pilots always puts on an amazing show no matter where they are. This was my 3rd time seeing them and it gets better every time. They know how to make people feel a part of the show because of communicating with the crowd while performing, going into the crowd, and drumming on top of the crowd. Lastly, Panic at the Disco just wrapped it all together and absolutely killed it. They always play songs from every album which makes it such an awesome experience. At the end of the show they did a cover or Bohemian Rhapsody and the whole amphitheater just went crazy. It's always fun when a band does a cover of something everyone knows. If you have a chance to see any of these bands live definitely go and you'll have the best night ever.
I've only been to a few concerts so far, but this one was definitely the best I've been to yet! Seeing HOLYCHILD and Max Frost at the beginning really got you pumped up and excited. Seeing Fitz and the Tantrums live was exciting and made you just want to get up and dance! Everyone was out of their seats and it was so much fun! The entire concert was absolutely unforgettable and enjoying! It was full of memorable moments that I'll never forget. I'd try and explain it better, but it was just so awesome I can't think of the words to describe it. I didn't get to do everything I'd like to have, and I didn't think to bring my camera, but I was so glad I got to go and see them altogether!
Earlier in the year I bought their newest CD and went to Lollapalooza in Chicago and saw them perform! They are totally awesome and I love their music I also love the electricity of the crowd that also watch them! I had the opportunity to see them in concert at the Riviera! The show was the best they performed and sang their heart out to the audience! I took some great photos and videos and I am looking forward to seeing them again! I will be posting special memory moment on Facebook and telling all my friends and family how great these song artists are! It was a sold out crowd and everybody danced in their seats, it was awesome! Its a concert I will not forget as I love these guys!
Awesome late 70's-80's sounds! The State Theatre venue was comfortable, it provides direct views of the stage, I venture to say there isn't a bad seat in the house.
The overall sound could have mixed with greater clarity i.e. lyrics, vocal story lines were muffled!
Dang, Fitz and band have honed their artful know how in holding on to their audience's attention! Brava for cranking our crowd experience up, and up, and up!
Hands clap:ll
During the pre-show:
Barns Courtney; really knows how to prep-up the crowd, we appreciated his musicianship, vocal chops and his overall artistry!
Hat's off to a Concert well done! Dr. K & wifie Sami
I've been to two of their concerts and this is one of the most energetic, fun concerts I've ever been to. The setting and intimacy of the House of Blues, Dallas helps a lot. They keep the crowd involved and there is a never a dull moment. Their music is so funky and fun there really isn't a chance to get bored or stand still for too long. Fitz and Noelle are amazing performers. I've loved getting to see this band evolve and grow in both music and popularity. This is the only band I've gone to see twice and I'd go again and again if they came to Dallas more often!
Fitz and the Tantrums were awesome! I loved how Fitz and Noelle had their moments of synchronized dancing but then they would go off and do their own thing too, so it didn’t look corny. Both of their voices sounded incredible the whole time. I also LOVE that they have a baritone sax player front and center. They are just so fun, but yet so unique. I am so glad I got to take my 13 year old daughter to see them for her first concert! They are the best!
Absolutely loved the show! The venue is great, but not the most Fitz compatible, though. Tight seating is not helpful for a super high energy show that Fitz delivers! James King was absolutely phenomenal too! LOVED the sax solo's - they should feature him more on the studio versions too - the sound is stunning! Can't wait for the next show, but maybe Myth or First Avenue may be a better setting - the Roy is too big and the acoustics are not that great.
Fitz & the Tantrums put on an AMAZING show! They had so much energy and really engaged the crowd. There was enough choreography to be entertaining but not so much that it was distracting. Their sound was perfect. This was definitely one of my top two favorite concerts. At the end of One Republic's set, they brought Fitz back out to perform a song that the OR singer had written for another artist and it was phenomenal! I loved loved loved this show!
Awful. Waste of time .when first advertised, it was advertised as a concert, then weeks later,it was a benefit with added guests.no one knew that Fitz and the tantrums would only play2 songs. A joke. They only good thing though was it was a benefit and my tickets were tax deductible.
