Fans of modern hip-hop would definitely appreciate a show like Classified’s. As a hip-hop artist, Classified isn’t the typical rapper in the industry. For starters, he’s Canadian. And he’s also white.
His music attracts people from all walks of life, and that was apparent in the audience at the KOI Music Fest. It had a very bar-like feel to it, with Pabst banners draped over the stage and highlighted in red. It felt like something you would see at a little hut on the beach, and the entire setup turned a simple spot in Ontario into the go-to spot of the night.
What makes a Classified show stand out from other similar shows is that the setting is extremely intimate. It’s almost like one of those Unplugged or Live From Darryl’s House settings, in terms of how close everyone is to the stage and how interactive Classified is with the audience.
There are parts in the show where Classified and his band will completely stop the music to go into a makeshift improv comedy routine if anyone’s heckling or trying to get on stage. It adds a touch of color and flavor to the show. For the music in particular, songs like “No Mistakes” and “3 Foot Tall” sound just as good live as they do on a studio track.
There aren’t any bells and whistles or any sort of gimmicks; it’s just Classified and his band singing and playing, which is what most fans of music come to see.
