Psyko Punkz. Their name is spelt wrong. It even has a Z where there shouldn’t be a Z. That’s how you know they mean business before you know anything else about them. Cynicism aside however, this Dutch production and DJ duo might just be crazy enough to earn such a ridiculous name. They play the EDM subgenre of Hardstyle and in my estimation that’s the kind of genre name that you earn, not start with, and I would say that few earn the name in quite as spectacular fashion as they do. This is EDM that bridges the gap between both kinds of Hardcore, from Black Flag and Minor Threat’s raucous and riotous Hardcore punk to the (slightly) more commercially successful Hardcore techno movement. So while it may be kind of obvious to say that music so heavy and yet so danceable is incredible live, it doesn’t make it any less true. Everyone thinks they’ve been in some pretty crazy crowds but it’s probably nothing compared to the chaos that Psyko Punkz incites with ease. One need only apply if they’re willing to lose a great deal of their hearing for the next couple of weeks, and if they’re willing to risk the concerts they go to for the next year or so to feel disappointingly slight. However, every moment will be worth it. One to see as soon as possible.
