The producer had this to say about the EP "The direction and influence for the production came from being on tour all of last year and a good chunk of of 2013 so far. The entire EP was written on the road but mastered at my home studio in Indiana using my Neve Racks and Abelton. I'm really looking forward to seeing my fans on tour this fall and hope they all love this release as much as I do."
When he's not recording in his hometown studios in rural Indiana, Gard is touring worldwide, performing on huge stages at the likes of EDC, SnowGlobe, Starscape, Creamfields, Tomorrow World and Belgium's Dour. Live reviews
Red Rocks amphitheatre in Colorado is one of the States most prestigious venues and has hosted a huge array of performers putting on luxurious shows all to seem in keeping with this demanding platform. Dance musicians have notoriously missed this spot on their tours as it is harder to create music to fill this ambient location and to win over the crowds at the same time. Step forward Josh Gard best known as Figure.
The American electro musician not only played Red Rocks but completely owned it. With his 'Monsters' selection of mix tapes drawing in the crowds and keeping them moving. The tunes keep coming in quick succession as Figure mixes with a similar intensity to his facial expression as he roars at the crowd during the build up to some of his personal favourite tracks. With the horror themed drum step keeping the audience on their toes he mixes in some cuts from upcoming releases and snippets of other dance floor fillers to further evidence his growing critical reputation. Already demonstrating creativity through music, the album is bound to be a smash and the live show will only get better with time.
What makes a good DJ/Producer these days? Is it a pseudo musician who has the prowess to make a big sound through their sound? Is it being able to hit play live and convince the audience that you’re actually doing everything on the spot? Who knows, I’m still looking for the answer. Right now, lets talk about a DJ called Figure, from Evansville, Indiana. Somewhere in Middle-America. This guy is one of those who knows what he’s doing when it comes to drum and bass music, definitely a master of what he does with the huge sounds that he makes. In this live performance there is nothing that immediately grabs my attention that I want to sing straight back until he launches straight into a fantastic dubstep sound. The oscillating synthesizers, which are so off beat, it almost sounds like tempo changes in this song “Dominate” get this audience jumping up and down, dancing over this huge EDM.
