Friday 14th October. Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas. Prophets of Rage. It’s a special birthday treat tonight for me, my son and his friend on this trip to Vegas from England.
Having seen Rage Against the machine, Public Enemy and Cypress Hill at Rock the Bells in New Yok in 2007 we were not going to miss the chance to see this ‘supergroup’ perform on their ‘Make America Rage Again’ tour. Taking their name from a Public Enemy song the band are made up of ¾ of Rage, DJ Lord and Chuck D from Public Enemy and B-Real from Cypress Hill.
Walking through the casino to the bar we pass Tom Morello on his way into the venue much to my sons delight.
It’s a big venue with a mix of locals and tourists from all over America and further afield. After a short 15 minute DJ Set by Public Enemy’s DJ Lord to get the crowd warmed up, the band take to the stage and storm straight into ‘Prophets of Rage’.
It’s then a blistering two hours of top quality hip hop with a rock edge with Morello on stunning form as usual making noises from a guitar that no one else can. He is ably supported by the driving rhymic force of Commerford and Wilk on bass and drums respectively.
The set is taken mostly from the Rage catalogue but any fears that Chuck D and B-Real couldn’t match the force that is Zach de la Motta were soon dispelled and they really came into their own on the pure hip hop segment where they performed in the crowd.
Highlights too many to mention but ‘Testify’ and ‘Bulls on Parade’ really stood out for me Politicising was kept to a minimum but the message was delivered succinctly and passionately.
A great night and looking forward to hopefully some UK dates next year but be careful in the mosh pit guys, it’s brutal.
Keep on rockin y’all.
One of the best shows I've seen just amazing, I was so excited to see them. Not knowing how it was going to go but when they came out..just electrifying starting with thier new single then going to straight into the Rage classics with new songs peppered in. The band takes a break and let B Real and Chuck D do some of thier classics (Cypress hill & Public Enemy tunes) they come back and start right back in it. The finally blowing everybody away they bring Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters out to play a song Dave F**in Grohl! What a show they are simply amazing if you were thinking about thier show DO IT!!! Love These guys! Best Concert of the Year.
I was SO exited for this Show, ive been listening to RaTM for several Years. I was a bit worried that without Zach the Band wouldnt be able to pull off their High-Energy-Shows, but boy was i wrong! :D Brilliant Atmosphere, superb Sound, and a Energetic Show made this the best Concert ever visited. They played a wide arsenal of RaTM Songs, as well as Hits from Cypress Hill and Public Enemy. Also they played their new Song "Unfuck the World", that they had introduced one week ago. 10/10 worth the Money, the Crowd went Nuts for the entire 2 Hours Show.
I only got lawn seats because I believe that's where the party is. The first band wakrat was great at setting the mood of the show. Awolnation the pop band turned into a metal band And then prophets of rage. Even though the ratm lead singer wasn't there Chuck d mastered the songs. They played all there hits. About half way through the concert a mosh pit started on the lawn. As always I was I joined in. I have been waiting for this concert since I was seven and it completely surpassed all expectations. If you have a chance go see this band live.
This is a must see show. DJ Lord opened the show with great showmanship and really got the crowd going. Chuck D and B Real are great as the front men. The whole band sounded tight and had non stop energy for the entire two hour show. This is the Rage that everyone has been missing and now they're back and better than ever. Also part of the proceeds for every show goes to one of that cities food banks to help the homeless and needy. Bottom line, go see these guys.
Exceeded expectations immensely. Probably the best concert I've ever been to. I was rocking out the whole time. The sound was amazing. B-real KILLED it filling in for Zach. It was awesome to have a mix of different styles of music, but ultimately, it was all about Rage... I mean my god, if they don't all stay together as it is now, just have B-real replace Zach and go on tour as Rage, I will go to every show I can.
The show was awesome they could have turned the vocals up a tad bit but overall it was great energetic show from Dj Lord opening and Tom is just an elite guitarist Brad Wink on the drums....nice.Tim....on Bass these guys are the music that made RATM and Audioslave so it's only right that they perform their music Shout out to Chuck D and B Real by keeping the energy up...great show once again
High energy performance w/ great songs, but the music seemed to overpower the vocals. Low ticket sales got us a bump to better seats though. Overall it was a good show, not great. I expected more.
