Live reviews
Watching punk music performed live is always super exhilarating, and in the case of The Tiger Lillies, you know you’re going to get a great show from their eccentric costumes, and well known performance dedication. I had quite expectations from the trio, as their unique fusion of the pre war cabaret music and savage edge punk is something incredibly original that I’ve not experienced live before. Their use of eclectic instruments such as Martyn Jaques’ accordion and harmonica makes the sound original, and watching someone master these rarer instruments is incredibly exciting.
The band came out on stage with their crazy makeup and costumes on and took their positions to begin the show. They opened the show with the title track from The Sea, and played some great instrumental solos in between the verses, really showing off their talent. With such a huge back catalogue of tracks I had no idea how they were going to pick a set list, but the band focused mainly on A Dream Turns Sour, the newest album, as well as revisiting their work from earlier in their career. Each instrumentalist was great at engaging with the audience, and encouraged everyone to sing and dance along with their awesome sound.
They got bumped from the double booked main venue for some other trivial band/show. We watched them in the attic of this old Chicago theater with a crowd of about 250 people. It was easily one of the best shows, or the best show that I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. They are awesome!!
If they ever come near Chicago again, I will be looking for some tickets :)
Excelent performance! they arrives decided to make a fast review for some of the iconical songs of their musical history, and full of kindness after the show they offer a long moment in the hall of the theater autographing and making pictures with their fans Great Great Experience!
