Fantastic concert.
Loads of old favourites from Weave and Spin and Mayday like Elin's Trall, The Colour of Amber, Nottamun Fair, The Crow on the Cradle, Katy Cruel, ... and one's I'd not heard them do live before (like Kate Bush's This Womans Work). They also did loads off the new album Cycles - even though it's not out yet (just gone off for production). Some I knew already: Land on the Shore was one that they taught us at their singing workshop last year, and another cropped up in Hannah's JigDoll project. But some were newly minted - Gerrard Winstanley's Digger's Song and beautiful songs by Rowan and Hazel. Hazel's was about physics and death, I kid you not.
Whenever I hear Lady Maisery or their other projects and bands I a amazed at the musicianship, the clear and interesting close harmony work, the politics and ideas behind the songs, and just how beautiful the sound is.
A delightful gig with Lady Maisery on very consistent form. They are always so natural, it doesn't feel like an act, more like friends playing for you.
They played 3 tracks from their new album "Awake Arise", which were exquisite, as well as lots of their older stuff, which keeps evolving. Hannah is now providing a bit of "drum and bass" by clever technical means, filling out their sound.
Get to see them if you can; they don't disappoint. I took some friends who'd never seen LM to a previous gig, and they were blown over, completely and happily surprised.
A very enjoyable concert from the Ladies. Unsure if I prefer the acoustic or amplified shows they seen to differ in the overall sound of the tracks performed. Played a varied selection of music from LM - the Songs of Seperation CD - With individual outings from Hazel - Hannah and Rowan. We have seen them a number of times and they are very professional as well as excellent musicians their voices seen to be in great harmony. Catch them in you can on this current tour.
I ha e seen Lady Maisery a few times now, either as the trio or as duets and solo performances. First time was about ten years ago now Think was Stanley Halls in South Norwood. I amways enchanted by their skills S musicians and their excellent singing. The performances always seem so relaxed and yet so polished. Will e so good to see them again
