Biography
Mims started rapping around the age of 14 under the moniker Lil Yo before building a strong and extensive catalogue for himself in the early 2000s. His debut independent album titled “From Da Dope Game 2 Da Rap Game arrived in 2000, followed by “Self-Explanatory” in 2001, and released through TVT Records “Life” in 2003 and “Back 2 da Basics” in 2006.
The sound and character of Mim’s music is undeniably Dirty South gangster rap and he derives his name from the infamous New York mafia ring leader John Gotti in a similar vein to Big Gotti, Doni Gotti and Juan Gotti. Whilst proudly from the south and having Southern influences including the Three 6 Maifa and Skinny Pimp, Mims Northern indluences include the likes of N.W.A and Tupac Shakur.

The album debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200, but disappointed with the level of sales Mim’s departed from RCA Records and Polo Grounds Music.
After signing a distribution deal with Epic Records through his label CMG, Mim’s announced his lead single “Act Right” featuring Young Yeezy and YG in anticipation of his sixth studio album “I Am”. The album was released on November 19, 2013 and was supported by the I' Am Tour” with acts such as YG, Zed Zilla and Cash Out in support.
Live reviews
It’s no new thing for rap artists to talk about having moved from a criminal past into the music industry, but Yo Gotti wasn’t beating around the bush when he titled his first album, which dropped back in 2000, From Da Dope Game to Da Rap Game. Gotti, who’s real name is Mario Mims, has remained a prominent figure in the hip hop scene ever since, with a significant cult fanbase allowing him to go on and make the likes of Back 2 da Basics, Live from the Kitchen and last year’s I Am. He’s collaborated with the likes of Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne and YG, and has managed to keep himself at the forefront of the scene by constantly working with the hottest new artists; his last album featured J. Cole and T.I., too. Gotti is currently readying his third album in as many years, The Art of Hustle, after founding his own label, Collective Music Group, last year. He’s still finding the time, though, to play live shows, having played across the U.S. this year at both festivals and his own concerts. Expect him to pay a visit to his strong UK following sooner than later, with The Art of Hustle poised to represent his mainstream comeback.
Mario Mims better known by his stage name Yo Gotti, is an American rapper from Memphis, Tennessee and although he released his debut album nearly 20 years ago, the rapper still has a huge fan base who continue to sell out his tours over and over.
His first official release was in 2003 and since then his reputation has soared both commercially and critically. Often famed for being an incredibly honest lyricist, the fans gathered in the venue are debating what Mims will include on the setlist having so many albums, singles and mix tapes. As the lights go down and the frontman arrives, the cheers are deafening and are only overshadowed by the bass of 'I Am' followed by 'Don't Come Around'.
Gotti often stops the music to showcase his skills as a freestyle rapper and of course the crowd cheer him on as he clearly enjoys the platform. Suitably energised, the crowd is dancing along to the very final beats of '5 Star' before the rapper swiftly exits knowing he has entertained his audience.
Awesome. I see Gotti every year in Memphis, Tn for his Annual Birthday Show he sells his shows out each year. This is the show to see each year. Memphis Own Yo Gotti. Memphis must be proud of its Native Son, I remember when Gotti would give free tickets to the Young boys in Memphis to see the Dub Car Show and his Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas Basket Give-Aways. Thanks Gotti
Yo Gotti was fine, but he was only on stage for about 30 minutes.
It was billed as "Yo Gotti & Friends", but the friends only consisted of local opening acts.
Side note: The refreshments area also left something to be desired. I believe my wait in line for drinks lasted longer than Gotti's set.
I was expecting a true VIP pass like i paid for. If was not VIP. Yo gotti did not come one stage until 1:38 a.m and the club closed at 2:00. I don't know where the disconnected what. I think better planning of the location would have went better.
