Front woman Lisa Velez is an incredible singer and the glue for the incredible freestyle pop band Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, and are a wonderfully fresh and original contemporary group of artists. The band, consisting of bass and guitar, drums, and keys are incredibly tight and talented musicians. It’s rare that a band fabricated by a label achieve such success, and stay as a unit for so long, but Full Force really got this one right.
I first hears their self titled album back many years ago, and listened to it time and time again, before exploring the rest of their music. Spanish Fly, my favourite album, had the tracks that I was most excited to hear performed on their greatest hits tour. They opened the show with Lisa singing the beginning of Go For Yours a capella, which was an exciting way to start the show. Although they focused largely of Life ‘n Love, the hits that they revisited were definitely the best ones, and they didn’t miss out anything major, which was great.
Lisa’s voice dancing over the instrumentalists was even better to hear live than on recordings, and the entire show flew by in a whirl of fantasticness! The band were lovely and interacted well with the audience, which was a lovey touch to the show.
