Live reviews
I first heard Field Music at The Cluny a while ago. Their live performance has stuck with me even to this day, as it was one of the most memorable performances in recent memory.
The Cluny is a smaller, more intimate venue, but it was a perfect place to totally absorb everything FIeld Music was doing right. Crowded close together under the colorful stage lights, their rendition of "Each Time is a New Time" was full of the passion and exuberance that one can only truly pick up in a venue like The Cluny.
David and Peter Brewis' musical bond obviously is deeper than just the sort of bond that forms when one has been involved in a band for several years. Not surprisingly, their bond is familial--the two are brothers--and this really shows in their live performances, as you can see the two sync up perfectly with the rhythm of their music and each other, making the performance come alive with an almost electric energy. "Share The Words" was an equally impressive performance, for its simplicty with vocals and piano sweeping you into the lyrics as the song begins.
Overall, a small, but enjoyable live show by some very talented musicians.
Never been to a shop gig before, so the informality of this one at the superb Rise Music in Clifton, Bristol, was special. The five band members crammed into the far end of the shop/cafe, with maybe 70 people watching, including up on the chairs.
The band was superb, making up the set list as they went along, but delivering a very polished performance of each, promising much for those going to see them at the 6 Music Festival down the road at the weekend.
"Old" and new mixed comfortably, with their own particular blend of voice, witty lyrics and unexpected chord changes (and personnel swaps as the two brothers moved, carefully, between lead guitar and drums).
When they get to play Wembley Stadium, they said, we are going to drive onto the pitch. Might get there too.
First time seeing Field Music live in spite being a fan of their music for a number of years. They did not disappoint!
Brothers Dave and Pete Brewis delivered a warm, humerous and lively performance, supported by their wider band members. They came across as being at the top of their game (in spite Dave still recovering from a bad throat).
The Rescue Rooms provides a perfectly intimate little venue for such an engaging band. I will be eagerly looking forward to my second opportunity to see them live!
A fantastic evening full of character. A great selection of tunes brilliantly delivered, lessons in pub-rock-band timings of the north east, great visuals on the screen, brilliant backing from the band, and even a bit of banter with dad (or was it...?). The only minus was for all Barbican's exceptional sound and comfort, this is music to move to. Definitely one to see again. Highly, highly recommended.
What a special night. This was a band at the top of their game. The new album in full was not only spellbinding but an involving learning experience to boot. The venue itself just added an extra dose of magic. It'll be hard to top as my gig of the year!
I was so privileged to see them in London this year at the Barbican Center. They are fantastic musicians, songwriters and human beings. What a wonderful show! I would definitely recommend seeing them live. They deliver an effortless performance.
Privileged to be that close to a talented group of artistes. They obviously care for their music and put it across with finesse.
Felt inspired to come home and get more creative myself. Great night, great bunch of people.
