It’s such fun to see Black Joe Lewis do what he does best, in the form of what sounds like a sort of sloppy garage rock with a prominent blues influence. One of the things that I can immediately gauge is that he is such a fantastic musician with so much stage presence and soul when he performs. His voice is a very high tenor voice with a lot of grit, and his band that accompany him are absolutely fantastic. Drums, bass guitar, a baritone saxophone and extra percussion back him in this live performance “Skulldiggin” is his first song this evening which has a baritone saxophone solo and a guitar solo played at the same time. Lewis’ guitar tone is definitely something a little bit different to what I’ve heard before, sounding something along the lines of a Jack White kind of tone. “Dar es Salaam” massively brings the funk to the table, making anyone and everyone dance. It’s a live show that you just don’t want to miss, with these relatively strong songs.
