Biography

  • Reggae, reggae rock, roots reggae oh and calypso. It would be an understatement to say Rebelution like reggae, no way, It must be said they love it!

Rebelution formed 2004 in, California, United States of America. It was found by Eric Rachmany - vocals and guitar, Matt Velasquez - Vocals and guitar, Rory Carey - keyboard, Wesley Finley - drums and Marley D Williams on bass.

It can be said that the music brought the band together, after Marley D Williams was on his way to choir practice he heard music coming from a door, this music was reggae and was being played by none other than Rachmany himself. This music brought them together.

In 2006 Rebelution released their very first EP which was self titled "Rebelution" this was well received, as the year prior they had began to build their very own momentum as they were consistently putting themselves on the platform; playing local shows and spreading their name.

Rebelution broke through in 2007 when they released their first full length album titled "Courage to grow" this album was well received and reached number 4 on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart. The song "Safe and Sound" received heavy play on radio stations in California, the album also managed to get selected for iTunes Editor's choice for Best Reggae Album of 2007.

All four members of the band have also graduated from the University of California receiving degrees in their respective subject areas.

Rebelution have their own record label titled 87 music, they used this label as the platform for releasing their third album "Peace Of Mind". The success of this saw the band chart ad number 1 on the independent and number 1 on the reggae charts.

In 2014 the band headlined the California Roots Music and Arts Festival. They currently have 4 studio albums released and 2 EP's.

As of 2014 Matt Velasquez is a former member of the band and the band has touring members Khris Royl - sax and percussion and another member Zach Meyerowitz - trumpet.

Live reviews

  • Rebelution

Rebelution really do bring the sunshine with them wherever and whenever they perform. Brightening up a dreary London evening, the rock/reggae musicians light up the stage and you can almost feel the heat as they launch into their sunny sounds. Beginning with a complex introduction to showcase their musicality, it blends effortless into 'Sky Is the Limit'.

The audience is ready to party with the reggae rockers and they are more than happy to oblige as they deliver tune after tune. Great applause for fan favourites including 'Good Vibes' and 'Safe and Sound'. The quintet jams well together onstage and the audience cheers them on during the complex instrumentals.

Despite playing a short set, the calypso inspired music has been extended to really allow the varied instruments to shine. The hazy, multi-colour really does transport the crowds to the beach for mass dance-along to 'Outta Control'. Rebelution leaves the stage know they have successfully delivered a little piece of California to the UK.

  • If you're looking for an amazing live experience, you'll find it when you see Rebelution on this current tour. Errol Brown (who masterfully has mixed both of Rebelution's last two albums) mixes the live shows, and the results are nothing short of amazing. Errol was Bob Marley's last engineer/producer, and he has 5 Grammy awards to his name (including his most recent one a year ago for Ziggy Marley's "Love is My Religion - LIVE" album. Rebelution has always had an amazing unique sound, and I've probably seen them a dozen times (mostly in San Diego). Eric Rachmany not only brings incredible vocals to the music, but the dude even plays LEAD guitar! I can't think of many reggae acts that have that dynamic (SOJA is another).

  • best concert I've been to all summer maybe ever. The venue had a very relaxed atmosphere and no hassle getting in to the venue. The beer is absolutely ridiculous priced, I understand your trying to make money but $14 for one beer is outrageous highway robbery. Staff could also do better on keeping track on seating. I saw several people on multiple occasions come from sottinf further up and then just walked right by with out getting tickets checked and anytime I went by I always had to get my ticket back our on the phone no matter how many times it seemed they saw, it could partly be so to tje person who was watching the secrion change nultipul times.

  • First of all, I got there when New Kingston was playing their last song. And that last song started the best night of my life. The intermission was longsd then I thought it would be. That only gave me to time to build up even more excitement. Then rebelution came on and they played "Green to black" as the first song. And the room was beautiful and wonderfully smokey. I know all their songs. And their new song was just as good as the old! I adore and admire rebelution so much. Every song has impacted my life and so has their positivity. Fucking fantastic show!

  • I have seen Rebelution three times. First was when they were warming up for Slightly Stoopid. It was an eye opener. They write soulful songs with socially conscious lyrics. The rhythm section is very tight, reminiscent of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare. They blend traditional reggae with contemporary hip hop in a California sort of way. They interact with their audience in an authentic and energetic way. You walk away from a show feeling alright about being a human being on planet earth.

  • Rebelution was incredible. Very talented band. Collie was good. He still puts on a good show. As for the other bands, they were there to spew their political opinions on the crowd. Police brutality, discrediting the military, and bashing on conservatives is propaganda that has no place at a show. Play music. It's irresponsible to get a crowd of drunk people fired up against police with the entire venue surrounded by police. Makes for an unsafe environment don't you think?

  • Another Rebelution show and another 5 Star performance!! Rebelution is easily my favorite band and if anyone has seen them live they know why. Always puts on such a special and memorable performance with Eric getting the crowd involved, the light show and the amazing musicians they are!! Singing along to every song with all my friends and seeing the smiles on everyone in the building makes it one of the best yet!! Can't wait until Cali roots and June back in Montana!!!!

  • I have been waiting to see Rebelution for years and I must say they exceeeded my expectations. Rebelution is the best band I've ever seen live. They are amazing musicians and performers, and the way that they seamlessly played song to song was impressive. Best concert I've ever been to, hands down. Will definitely be going next time they tour here.

Collie Buddz was amazing and had such a great energy live.

  • The show was awesome. Rebelution was amazing as always. The other acts were good as well. I wish the mic quality was the same for Collie as it was for the other artists. I was in the front row of the pit and couldn't hear him so I can't imagine what others experience was. Overall a great entertaining show and I can't wait until the next one.

  • The show was great. I was thrilled that they were playing with tribal seeds as well, good line up. Both groups had plenty of energy rocking red rocks. Rebelution was accompanied by some nice effects of different types of fog, lights and a big R light on the side of the rock.

  • Rebelution itself was amazing! I didn't really like where they choice to play and their opener I don't beleive check the sound either because it kept making a high pitch noice. The venue was also too small and crowed... but Rebelution put on an amazing show!

  • The energy of the show was amazing! Great vibes and good times for the crowd at Tricky Falls in El Paso Tejas. I'm glad the bands chose that venue. Both Passafire and Rebellution had the crowd singing their songs. Highly recommended their show!
