Porno for Pyros

Formed out of the ashes of the original lineup of Jane’s Addiction, following their dissolution in the early nineties, Porno for Pyros featured Jane’s frontman Perry Farrell on vocals and their sticksman, Steven Perkins, behind the kit, as well as Peter DiStefano on guitar and Martyn LeNoble on bass. With a significant cult following eagerly awaiting any post-Jane’s material from any members of the band, it’s perhaps little surprise that the debut Pornos record, a self-titled affair that was released in April of 1993,was a commercial success, hitting number three on the U.S. albums charts and going gold with sales of over 500,000 copies. They managed one more album, the well-reviewed and commercially successful Good God’s Urge in 1996, before DiStefano’s diagnosis with cancer forced the band to shelve touring plans for the foreseeable future, and effectively led to their disbanding. However, they’ve twice made brief reformations; they first played Farrell’s fiftieth birthday party in April of 2009, and then pledged to get back together in 2013, with Farrell confirming that recording efforts were underway on album number three; expect typically energetic live shows, and career-spanning sets, should the reunion become a full-scale affair at any point in the future.
