THE LISA LEBLANC show in Edmonton was fantastic! It was a newer venue in town called Studio 96 in a grungy section of town which filled with Quebecers - fitting her song "You look like trouble but I guess I do too" to a tee. Her opener Gaberielle Papillon, played a fantatic set in Franglish. Highlights of her set to me was a song "I've only seen Kentucky in the Dark." as well as her wonderful open tuning guitar work.
Lisa LeBlanc knocked me out. She started with a few songs from HIGHWAYS, HEARTACHES, AND TIME WELL WASTED and blew the roof off with her "Gold Diggin' Hoedown". She played a nice mix of her full catalogue and whether the songs were in English or French they got folks moving and singing on the dance floor. Her stage presence was solid and showed that she has been treading the old boards for a while and knows how to throw a good time. Mz LeBlanc and her bandmatesleft the crowd gasping for more with her seminal cover of "The Ace of Spades"
I cannot recommend this concert enough. Do not miss them when they come through your town.
Canadian singer-songwriter Lisa LeBlanc gave a wonderful show of mostly original material, highlighted by her relaxed and engaging stage presence and quick wit. A bilingual Acadian, she writes and sings in both French and English, and for her New York audience she introduced her French material with a little English summary.
Like most artists, she often sings above love - but with refreshing twists. A number of her songs deal humorously with inappropriate boyfriends ("Dump the guy ASAP") and clumsy break-ups ("Can't you at least wait until I've had my coffee?), ("T'es parti avec mon char" You Left With My Car). The wistful Kraft Dinner and a poignant and lovely cover of Katie Cruel added depth and variety.
With her lively and varied repertoire, from rock to folk, her excellent musicianship on guitar, banjo and mandolin, backed by a solid team of musicians, Lisa LeBlanc delivered an intimate and very satisfying concert experience. The audience adored her.
Wow ! Incredible energy. She is so entertaining with all the instruments she plays. Very funny, and such a great personality. I had an awesome time. I will see her again this summer in Quebec City. I can't wait. I love all her songs! One great moment, when she played kraft dinner on own with a touching s'insère moment at the end of the show. Je suis francophone et des artistes comme elle sont rare. ❤️
Every time I go to see Lisa LeBlanc, she amazes me with her showwomanship and energy.
Her music is different from folk, punk, and rock. Yet she has elements of all of those.
The subject material for her songs are almost always very personal and from her experience as a human being.
I love her.
She performed two French songs, beautiful... Before starting, she goes, "this is a very educational show... Next show is going to be some French grammar..." She is brilliant! The quietness, the loudness, I love her energy!
